This past saturday, I was lucky enough to find someone with a pickup truck in order to accomplish what most of us had not done since last April. We were allowed to take leftover ice shavings from a local ice rink. We made it back up the hill to Lexington, NY and unloaded the snow and used a drop in ramp, and a six foot box that had been donated.

Coping With No Snow...... Recession Sessions
In the Catskills, warm weather has lead to serious delays in the start of the shred season. Recently Catskill Resorts aren't even getting the cold nights that they would need to even start making snow. Between that and the rainstorms, creating a base during these times maybe easier said then done. Since sandboarding has never been an option in the Catskills, we need to find other ways to cope when you can't afford to day hop to Vermont or Maine. Whether it's robbing the local ice rink's zamboni ice shavings, or finding some other way to get our shred on, Stoked On Ice is bringing you the Recession Sessions.

Think Thank Presents:Cool Story
Cool Story - Think Thank's 2009-2010 Snowboarding Film from vas entertainment on Vimeo.
Think Thank is back with Cool Story. Cool Story has everything you could want and more. The title is fitting, and this cast of riders put out the most creative video I have seen yet. If you have never seen Scott Stevens, Autsin Hironaka, Jesse Burtner, or Pat Milberry ride before, this video is a must for you. This video will amaze you with how they can take simple features your have seen before, and create tricks that are mind-blowing.

Videograss
VIDEOGRASS TEASER from VIDEOGRASS on Vimeo.
Mikey LeBlanc, Darrell Mathes and Nima Jalali have to come together to produce Videograss. Videograss was just as advertised, no helicopter shots or sponsor requirements, just raw snowboarding. These guys chose some very good riders and have a lot of footage to prove it.
The video makes triple kinks look easy, but it gets repetitive no matter how good they are. Overall it's a standard rail riding video but this cast could do more then front boards. I expected a little more progression, but solid riding overall.

MFM and F.O.D.T. present: Hard to Earn
Hard To Earn from twoleftfeet.eu & raiders.eu on Vimeo.
Hard To Earn might have set the record for most varsity jackets in the backcountry this year. But if your looking for a video to ghost ride the whip, you might be horribly disappointed. The soundtrack is classics with old school, but surprisingly it works. These riders are a strong crew taking standard incorporating their own style.

Standard Films Presents: Black Winter
Black Winter - Standard Films 2009-2010 Snowboarding Film from vas entertainment on Vimeo.
Standard Films is back this season, and always they never seem to disappoint. This film as always, has a pretty strong cast, but the film crew also has a good eye for younger talent on the rise. There is a well rounded mix between riding rails, park, and backcountry. The film takes off right from the beginning with Torstein Horgmo leading the way. The film also shows Andreas Wiig, Eric Jackson, Mark Landvik, Andrew Geeves, Leanne Pelosi, and Chas Guldemond.

Transworld Snowboarding Presents: Get Real
Get Real - Transworld's 2009-2010 Snow Film from vas entertainment on Vimeo.
Transworld has been advertising this all over their website, and I must admit it is worth the wait. This line up includes Ikka Backstrom, Chris Grenier, Scott Stevens, Jed Anderson, Scotty Lago, and Eero Niemla just to name a few.Get Real is a smooth video, the riders' creativity lead to a fun film. Scott Stevens steals the show again using his skate influenced style to blow people minds once again. This video although fun, never really takes off like you want it too. It remains consistent, never really trying to push it to the limit with anything that hasn't been done yet. Personally, I was not a huge fan of the soundtrack.

Snowboarding Movies-Pay It Forward
Every fall I start jonesing for snowboarding. Whether it's reading catalogs or seeing online videos of pros shredding in the southern hemisphere, when fall arrives, so do snowboard videos. Since I am a serious video nerd, I felt that I would post reviews of the videos I have seen so far. I have this expensive habit of purchasing dvds yearly, and watching them religiously.

Welcome to Stoked on Ice!!
Welcome to Stoked on Ice, This blog is intended to show the side of snowboarding that got everyone from Jake Burton to your local shop kid inspired to search for the perfect line. By the "Perfect Line" I don't just mean first tracks in fresh powder, I mean anything that you consider snowboarding. This can involve absolutely any kind of snowboarding.
This blog was inspired by me getting employed by Hunter Mountain (2007) when I had never seen so little snow. The amazing part about it was the fact that we made the best of a season that barely got below freezing. I learned the definition of Jibbing. That season guaranteed that I would become passionate about snowboarding. This website is not only limited to industry news, but local news as well. Please E-mail about anything you would like discussed, demoed, etc.
