Snowboarding is Getting Spoiled by Big Money....NOT?

The article "Is Snowboarding Getting Spoiled by Big Money?" By Christina Crapanzano. This article makes it seem like snowboarding cannot be accepted into the world of "Big Money". She writes "However, each of the companies' sizable investment in just one athlete's training was unprecedented and, for some, shockingly expensive for what was a rag-tag sport." I firmly believe that this "rag-tag sport" does not have to have big business in order for it to remain around.

Competitions need money to thrive, but did banning the rebelous sport we've come to love ever stop it from evolving? This author completely misses the point, and decides to use danger and fear to grab attention of the masses. The truth is that they are in fact professional athletes, and in order to stay on top or even stay around, you must be willing to push the sport. They are fully aware of the risks they are involved in, and unless someone is forcing you to go down a super pipe, it is like most things in life: a risk in life that you are willing to take.
Whether it's learning a double cork or double kink, the feeling of accomplishing something you haven't done before is the adrenaline rush that is part of the reason why snowboarding is so much fun. These pros simply have a different threshold for progression which should in fact have a different method of training. It's not like they did not earn the facilities. The beauty of this sport is preference. In reality you have to allow this sport to continue to evolve and stop trying to create the idea of rules and regualtion.
